Sun requirement for Pohara kale: Plant in Full Sun
A mild-flavoured kale with large, open, light green leaves with a slight curl around the edges. Well known around many Maori communities, particularly around East Cape, and also sent to Koanga as asparagus kale from Blenheim. Young leaves can go in mesclun salads. Sow in trays in late summer, autumn or early spring, prick out at 2.5 cm and transplant at 8 cm high at 40 cm diagonal spacing. Cover with row crop cover when establishing in summer to protect from butterflies and extreme heat.
