Allium fistulosum

A variety of Welsh onion

How to sow Welsh bunching onion: Division or direct seed

Sun requirement for Welsh bunching onion: Plant in Full Sun

A perennial bunching onion that keeps growing and multiplying, like a large spring onion, with an outstanding flavour. The whole stem, green and white, is chopped into cooking or eaten raw in salads, and it can be harvested all year by cutting at the base. Scatter-sow in trays in early spring, then plant out with roots and tops trimmed to 10 cm, spaced 10 cm apart. After a year, divide the clumps and replant at 30 cm spacing, and divide them yearly to keep them at their best.
