So you know, crop requests go here: http://growstuff.org/posts/skud-20130319-requests-for-new-crops (at least for now…the new code I mentioned that makes arugula/rocket both work also adds a snazzy form for crop requests)
And this is yet another case of one plant with many names. Broad bean and fava bean are the same thing.
Oh, I wonder if the magic crop text understands alternate names… broad bean EDIT: nope (or at least not yet)
Thanks for that Maco, I think linking various common names to a single search outcome is the best way to go. If Growstuff is going to be international it will have to cater for cultural name variations; EG Arugula is the common name in the US for what we call Rocket here in Australia. As for Fava bean, I have been growing vegies for forty odd years and I have never heard the term used before to describe broad beans. No wonder I couldn't find it.
As for not posting the request for a new crop in the correct place; either it is not clear enough how to post a request or there is something wrong with your link. When I click onto the link “Request new crops” on the plant something page I am taken to the page with scud “Request new crops” Link at the top followed by links to “Skud” and “Growstuff feedback and support”. The links to “Skud” and “Growstuff feedback and support” will take you to another page but when you click on the “Request new crops” link nothing happens. There is no other obvious way (at least to me) to request new crops on that page, hence me clicking on “Growstuff feedback and support link and posting my new crop requests there.
I have tried this exercise in both Firefox and Internet explorer browsers and come up with the same impasse.
The funny part about "if it's going to be international" is that it's incorporated in Australia! However, when Skud built the site, she decided (I guess based on population numbers?) to have en_US be the default.
You just post a comment on that thread that the link took you to. That's what the other 100-odd comments are: crop requests and responses to them. Maybe the title of the post shouldn't be a link…hmm. I could see where that threw you off into thinking you were supposed to go somewhere else.
