PermalinkLast year I got a chainsaw for Christmas, and it was the best gadget - I cut back trees; I cut down trees. I let the light into the garden. I found my own firewood for use in the pizza oven, the smoker, the outdoor bathtub heater, and the fire pit.
But all those branches had to go somewhere. So enter this year's best gadget: the shredder.
I've been turning any woody garden waste or trimmings into mulch to add to the compost or put directly in the garden. Because i live in Windy Wellington it's common that i find whole branches falled from trees around the area, and each morning while walking the dog i drag home some for mulching on the weekend.

Oh I found the exact same mulcher on gumtree, rode over, strapped it to a cargo bike and VERY carefully navigated home to looks from strangers.
Main thing I am worried about is the safety lock on the bin breaking, but its been pretty good (and safe) to use.
Two years in now, and the front garden ends up being in great shape from all the mulch - also a fair few mushrooms.
