Old seeds, soaked overnight as advised, and the seeds that responded to soaking were planted around the female pistachio tree. No sign of emergence though, so perhaps the seeds really were too old. Edit: I saw them start to emerge around the 1st of July and now they're big and healthy enough for positive identification. So they just needed lengthening days, or a better soil moisture profile.
